1. Registration

Q: How do I create a GoAnimate for Schools account?

A: Please visit https://goanimate4schools.com/public_signup to create an order. You can adjust the numbers of teacher and student accounts you will need and watch the price auto-adjust. Your order is not binding.

Q: What is the cost of a GoAnimate for Schools subscription?

A: Our prices are based on the number of users and the age of your students (K-12 or Higher Ed). Our prices are as low as $99 for a single K-12 classroom of up to 50 users or $59 for a single teacher.

Q: Does GoAnimate for Schools offer volume discounts for large schools or school districts?

A: Yes. Upon visiting https://goanimate4schools.com/public_signup simply enter the numbers of teacher and student accounts. As the order gets larger, the rate calculator will apply the discount automatically. If you’re inquiring about a district-wide subscription, please contact us at schools@goanimate4schools.com.

Q: Can I use GoAnimate for Schools if I’m not in an education-related field?

A: GoAnimate for Schools was created to be used by teachers and students in a classroom setting. If you want to use GoAnimate to promote your business or for fun, please visit https://goanimate.com/

Q: Are there free accounts at GoAnimate for Schools?

A: GoAnimate for Schools is not free. The free Teacher Plus program was retired in 2011 and those accounts are not available anymore.

Q: What methods of payment do you accept?

A: We accept payment by credit card, check, or purchase order. We can only accept checks in US dollars drawn on US banks. If you are outside the US, credit card is the best option. We can also accept wire transfers from overseas for purchases of $500 USD or more.

Q: For how long will my subscription last? Can I purchase only a few months of GoAnimate for Schools?

A: All GoAnimate for Schools subscriptions last for a calendar year. This way you can start your subscription at any time and know you’ll have access all year, without worrying about those pesky school holidays.

Q: Can I get a quote?

A: Of course. After you create your order, you can download and print a quote, invoice, or order information. You can download these documents at the bottom of the Order Summary step, before proceeding to checkout. You can use these documents to create a purchase order or get administrative approval.

Q: Can I use GoAnimate for Schools on a Google Chromebook?

A: Yes. You can use GoAnimate for Schools on a Google Chromebook.

Q: What if I need to add more teacher or student accounts during the year?

A: You can easily add more teacher and student accounts to your subscription throughout the year. This can be done from the “Manage Subscription” tab in your Super Teacher account. The renewal tool will automatically sync the new users with your original order, prorate the subscription fee for the new students and still apply the maximum possible volume discount.

Q: Can I use GoAnimate for Schools anywhere in the world?

A: GoAnimate for Schools can be accessed anywhere there is internet access. We are currently in use by thousands of schools on four continents.

Q: I live in Australia or New Zealand. How can I register for GoAnimate for Schools?

A: Australia and New Zealand customers can purchase GoAnimate for Schools through our reseller, EdSoft. You can contact them at customer.service@edsoft.com.au.

Q: Can I get a free trial to see if I like GoAnimate for Schools?

A: Yes. You can sign up for a 14-day free trial for one teacher and 49 students. The trial will allow you to create as many videos as you want, but you won’t be able to download, export, or embed your videos. You may upgrade to a GoAnimate for Schools subscription at any time, even after your trial has expired.

2. Benefits of Using GoAnimate for Schools

Q: Is GoAnimate for Schools right for me?

A: GoAnimate for Schools was designed to be used by teachers and students in a school/classroom setting. It is also ideal for the flipped classroom model. Are you a teacher? Do you like making and using creative videos in your classroom? Do you want your students to learn by creating animations as well? If you answered yes to these questions, then GoAnimate for Schools is right for you.

Q: How secure is GoAnimate for Schools? How does GoAnimate ensure that GoAnimate for Schools is safe for students?

A: Each account is its own private, secure “walled garden” with a unique private URL. All the usernames have to be created by teachers within the account, meaning people can’t randomly sign up. In addition, your GoAnimate for Schools site is not searchable, so student videos do not show up in search engine results. GoAnimate for Schools is in line with COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) and we protect your students’ PII (Personally Identifiable Information).

Q: Do you collect personal information from my students?

A: We collect information for the Super Teacher only. We will not ask you for information about your students and, frankly, we don’t want it. GoAnimate for Schools is in line with COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) and we protect your students’ PII (Personally Identifiable Information).

Q: Is the content school-appropriate?

A: All inappropriate content has been filtered out of GoAnimate for Schools. You and your students will not have access to non-school-appropriate assets, like alcohol or weapons.

Q: Can I manage my classes separately on GoAnimate for Schools?

A: Yes. Once your account is setup, you can subdivide the users into workgroups. These groups can be based on classes, age groups, subjects, clubs or anything else. This is a simple process inside our group management tool. For added flexibility, you can assign students to multiple groups if you wish.

Students cannot choose their own groups. They must be assigned to groups by their teachers. Students can only publish videos to groups to which they belong. This allows teachers to limit the distribution of students’ videos. For instance, it’s a great way to keep 8 year olds from seeing videos produced by 14 year olds.

In the big picture, our walled garden approach keeps outsiders out and student information in. Within the walled garden, the group management tools allow you to manage content sharing and student interactions.

Q: How do I manage inappropriate content on GoAnimate for Schools?

A: By default, we set group permissions so that all content created on your school platform gets moderated by a teacher before being published. This enables you to make sure that no inappropriate content is seen by your students.

Q: Can my students download their videos?

A: No. Only teachers have downloading privileges in GoAnimate for Schools. Teachers have the option of downloading their students’ videos for them, but students cannot publish externally without their teacher’s supervision.

Q: Can my students share their videos on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc?

A: No. Only teachers can export videos in GoAnimate for Schools. Teachers have the option of exporting their students’ videos, but students cannot publish externally without their teacher’s supervision.

3. Managing My GoAnimate for Schools Subscription

Q: Where can I log in to my account?

A: While signing up, you will select a private login URL. This will follow the form of http://goanimate4schools.com/school/YOURSCHOOL and you will select the unique name for “YOURSCHOOL”. Teachers and students will all visit this private address to log in.

You will receive your default username and password in your account confirmation email. This generally arrives within 1-2 business days upon receipt of your payment or PO. If you don’t receive your confirmation email, please check your spam/junk folder and remember to “whitelist” us in your email program.

Q: How do I renew my subscription?

A: Renewing an existing subscription is very easy. This can be done from the “Manage Subscription” tab in your Super Teacher account. Super Teachers and Finance Contacts can also renew an existing subscription by visiting https://goanimate4schools.com/public_signup and clicking the “Renew an Existing Subscription” button.

Q: Will my subscription auto-renew every year?

A: No. GoAnimate for Schools does not auto-renew. We will send you renewal alerts in the months leading up to your expiration date to help ensure there is no interruption of service.

Q: Can I add more teacher and student accounts if I need to?

A: You can easily add more teacher and student accounts to your subscription throughout the year. This can be done from the “Manage Subscription” tab in your Super Teacher account. The upgrade tool will automatically sync the new users with your original order, prorate the subscription fee for the new users and still apply the maximum possible volume discount.

Q: Can I change my GoAnimate for Schools URL?

A: If your GoAnimate for Schools account is paid for by your school, you can only change your URL with written permission from the Finance Contact of the school. If you pay for your own GoAnimate for Schools account, we’re happy to make that change for you.

Q: Can I merge my GoAnimate account with my GoAnimate for Schools account?

A: GoAnimate and GoAnimate for Schools are on separate platforms and cannot be integrated. Your GoAnimate for Schools account is so private that we’ve even locked ourselves (GoAnimate) out.

Q: If I let my subscription expire, can I still access my videos?

A: No. Once your subscription expires, your account will become disabled and you will not be able to access your videos. If you re-subscribe fairly quickly, your videos will still be available. We don’t rush to delete videos, but over time that disk space is reused.

Q: If I delete a student or teacher, will they lose their videos?

A: Yes. Once a student or teacher’s seat is recycled, access to their videos will be lost.

Q: If I delete a student or teacher, can I assign their seat to a new user?

A: Yes. All GoAnimate for Schools seats are recyclable.

Q: How do I create groups?

A: You can create groups from the “Manage Groups” section from your Super Teacher or Teacher account. You can also create groups directly from your Dashboard.

Q: How do I create student and teacher logins?

A: You can create student and teacher logins from the “Manage Students” section from your Super Teacher or Teacher account. Super Teachers can create both teacher and student accounts. Teachers can create student accounts.

Q: I have a lot of students. Is there an easy way to get all their logins created at once?

A: Yes. Go to the “Manage Students” section, select “Add a student”, and click “Import a CSV file”. Download the CSV sample, input your student information, and upload the file.

Q: Do students need an email address?

A: No. Your students will only need a username and password that you will provide to them.

Q: We use Google Apps for Education. How do Super Teachers, Teacher, and Students sign in using their Google Accounts?

A: This can be done from the “Accounts Settings” section from a Super Teacher, Teacher, or Student account. The right side of this page will show the following text: Connect this account with your Google account.

Simply click on the Google logo, select your Google account, and click to “Accept”. You can also remove the link to your Google account from the same location.

4. Teaching With GoAnimate for Schools

Q: What can I use GoAnimate for Schools for?

A: The possibilities are endless! Educators are using GoAnimate for Schools in many ways, from creative writing to practicing language skills. The animation studio is highly flexible and allows teachers and students to create videos of varying lengths, as well as use text-to-speech or voice recording for the characters. By providing a very open set of tools, we hope that every educator can find creative ways to use GoAnimate for Schools with their students.

Q: What subjects can I use GoAnimate for Schools with?

A: GoAnimate for Schools can be used for any subject: from math to foreign language learning to music and beyond!

Q: Does GoAnimate for Schools align with the Common Core State Standards?

A: Technology should be incorporated into the Common Core State Standards. GoAnimate for Schools can provide technology integration for Math and ELA instruction, while still teaching the necessary standards. The Common Core plans to make all students ready for “life in a technological society”.

Q: What is the difference between a “video maker” and a “template”?

A: Video makers are used to create a video from scratch. They give users access to a complete animation studio. You can drag and drop backgrounds, character, props, music, and special effects and really let your creative juices flow.

Templates are used to create videos based on pre-made template designs. They are used to complete a video quickly. You will select a setting, choose characters, type or record your dialogue, and voila! You have a video.

Q: Are there examples of lessons that I can see?

A: Yes. There are a few places on the GoAnimate for Schools site where you can view videos created by other teachers. Check out our Educator Experiences blog http://goanimate4schools.com/teaching-with-video/ to see examples of how educators are using GoAnimate for Schools in their classrooms.

Q: Can my students access their accounts from home?

A: If they know the URL, their username, and password they can access their account from home, provided they have an internet connection.

Q: How do I moderate videos?

A: By default, we set group permissions so that all content created on your school platform is moderated by a teacher before being published.

When a Super Teacher or Teacher logs in to their account, they can see their students’ videos and comments awaiting moderation by clicking the bell icon at the top, left side of the page.

Q: Where can my students log in?

A: Students will use your private GoAnimate for Schools site to log in to their accounts. Students cannot create their own accounts. They must be given their login information from a Teacher or Super Teacher.

Q: How can I download my videos or put them on YouTube?

A: Only Super Teacher and Teacher accounts can download videos or copy/paste embed codes. Go to the video’s page. Underneath the video, locate the “Share/Export” button. Click this to download or export your video. You can also copy the embed code.

Q: Can I download my students’ videos?

A: Yes. Super Teacher and Teacher accounts can download student videos.

Q: Does GoAnimate for Schools support languages other than English?

A: Yes. GoAnimate for Schools has text to speech actors in more than 20 different languages. In addition, users can use the mic recording feature to record their own voice in any language.

Q: How do I add voices to my video?

A: In a Template, select “Voice Recording” instead of typing your dialogue. In a video maker, select the character and under the “Voice” tab, use “Mic Recording” or “File Upload”.

Q: Can I load my own backgrounds and props into GoAnimate for Schools? How do I do this?

A: You can import many things into the animation studio, including backgrounds, props, music, and flash animations.

Q: Can I send messages to my students that the rest of the group won’t be able to see? How can I do this?

A: Teachers can send messages to a specific student from their inbox. Click the envelope icon at the top, left side of the page to go to your inbox.

Q: Do I need GoBucks in GoAnimate for Schools?

A: No. GoAnimate for Schools does not require GoBucks or any other form of virtual currency or real payment.

5. Troubleshooting Tips

Q: Are there tutorials available to teach me how to use GoAnimate for Schools?

A: For information about how to use our animation tools, visit our Help Center or Tutorial Hub.

Q: I can’t access your site at school. Why?

A: Your school may have blacklisted GoAnimate. When you start using GoAnimate for Schools, you should contact your tech department and ask them to “whitelist” the goanimate4schools.com domain. Explain that GoAnimate for Schools is a private, secure “walled garden” from which teachers have complete control over the access to YouTube and social networks. That should address any concerns they have.

Q: How do I get started creating videos and characters?

A: After you log in to your account, click the green “Make a Video” button at the top, right side of the page to get started.

Q: I can’t find my login information. Where would it be?

A: You will have received your login information in your account confirmation email. If you didn’t receive your confirmation email, you may want to check your spam/junk folder.

Q: How do I change my password?

A: You can change your password in your “Account Settings”.

Q: GoAnimate for Schools won’t work on my iPad. Why?

A: Because GoAnimate is flash-based, it will not work on an iPad.

Q: What are your bandwidth requirements?

A: Any standard broadband connection should work. If your school has limited broadband, you may experience some issues using GoAnimate for Schools. Be sure to ask your tech department to “whitelist” the goanimate4schools.com domain.

Q: Which browser should I use with GoAnimate for Schools?

A: GoAnimate’s preferred browsers are Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. Make sure you set your preferred browser to auto-update…and don’t forget to make sure your flash player is set to auto-update as well.

Q: Do I need to have any programs installed on my computer to use GoAnimate for Schools?

A: For the best results, always make sure your Flash is updated. It’s best to set your browser and Flash player to auto-update.

Q: The video maker won’t load. Why?

A: Make sure you’re using a preferred browser: Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. Ensure that both your browser and Flash player are updated to the latest version. Clear the cache on your browser, then restart your browser. Confirm with your IT department that they have “whitelisted” the domain goanimate4schools.com.

Q: I’m having trouble recording my voice. What can I do?

A: It is best to record your voice in a quiet room, one sentence at a time. Make sure your microphone is working properly as well. Check your mic input levels using your sound preferences or control panel.

Q: Do I need to download anything to use GoAnimate for Schools?

A: No. As long as your computer has flash installed and updated…and an updated browser, you are ready to use GoAnimate for Schools.
